Copyright See also Model ReleaseCopyright is the right to reproduce an image or artwork and always belongs to the photographer, unless relinquished in a written contract. Clients who have paid for photographs still do not own the right to reproduce them but need to be sure that they can freely use pictures for the purposes they intended and not have unexpected restrictions put upon them. Stephen Hepworth has a flexible and straight forward approach to copyright. Pictures are usually supplied for unlimited reproduction for agreed uses relating to a client's publicity or product promotion. Eg. brochures, web sites, point of sale advertising, editorials, newspaper articles etc. The expected uses of photographs are listed on invoices and permission to use the pictures is conditional on an invoice being paid. Should a client wish to use the pictures for any new purposes, sell them, or pass them on to a third party, the photographer needs be consulted. |
